One Smile Away From a Tear
© 2011 Mark Cote
When in this circus
play the clown
but this clown is frowning
frowning underground
I close my eyes
eyes to my soul
for the only one they know
is the one that shows
the one that's painted on
(chorus) one smile
one smile away from a tear
one Van gogh minus one ear
one smile away from a tear
you can find me
you can find me here
performing in circles
they don't care
the hyena is laughing
laughing at you
trying to break you
trying to break you down
(chorus)

Smoke Screen
© 2011 Mark Cote
The owl is smiling
at midnight blue
running in circles
is what we do
is it just a smoke screen
Capricorn rising
as the sun dies down
I sit and I wonder
'bout me and you
is it just a smoke screen
(chorus) smoke screen waters lead to
smoke screen skies
don't ask me I won't tell you why
smoke screen waters lead to
smoke screen skies
you can't see with
smoke in your eyes
smoke screen waters lead to
smoke screen skies
a piece of the puzzle
that needs to fit
but the puzzle keeps moving
I must admit
is it just a smoke screen
where are we going
where have we been
beyond our troubles
beyond our sins
is it just a smoke screen
(chorus)
The owl is smiling
at midnight blue

Montreal Bound
© 2011 Mark Cote
Just one hour after midnight
you called me up to take a drive
Just one hour after midnight
I can barely come alive
we hit the road just like a hammer
singing to the radio
got our minds across the border
2 hundred miles or so to go
(chorus) come along come along
Montreal we are bound
come along come along
Montreal we are bound
crossing over from new england
lost the map along the miles
got directions at a night club
she whispered come back in a while
We grew up quickly on the streets there
we wouldn't miss it for the world
seems the town never sleeps here
oh those Montreal girls
(chorus)
as we leave that fun behind
it was like a holiday
let's put this day back on rewind
we've got to try this again some day
(instr)
(bridge) what happened on a dare
will always stay right there
when we sober up nobody's even gonna care
on the front page
we can't read the news
we can't speak in French so we've got nothing to lose
(chorus)

Beerdrops In Her Wine
© 2011 Mark Cote
perfume and pearls stepped out of the night
something felt wrong something felt right
the touch of her hand that look in her eye
sparkles of love dancing in the wine
she touched a part of me I never knew
and I know she was feeling it too
music played our hearts moved in time
until the day when we spilled the wine
(chorus) line 'em up and send 'em down
another day another town
though she is teardrops in my eyes
I am just beerdrops in her wine
with each tear I drink her memory
tried and I tried but she could never see
what about those feelings she tries to hide
or was I just beerdrops in her wine
(chorus)
perfume and pearls stepped out of the night
something felt wrong something felt right
the touch of her hand that look in her eye
sparkles of love dancing in the wine
she touched a part of me I never knew
and I know she was feeling it too
music played our hearts moved in time
until the day when we spilled the wine
(chorus) line 'em up and send 'em down
another day another town
though she is teardrops in my eyes
I am just beerdrops in her wine
with each tear I drink her memory
tried and I tried but she could never see
what about those feelings she tries to hide
or was I just beerdrops in her wine
(chorus)
