Pothole On The Road To Heaven

© 2018 Mark Cote

nosebleed school days trying to prove who you are
puffing yourself up didn't get you that far
Daddy always knew the right things
in wisdom with what he'd say

(chorus) He'd say
life is just a pothole on the road to get to heaven
                 when you've given 10 he'll take you to 11
just hold on and keep your eyes straight ahead
because life is just a pothole on the road to get to heaven

tear-stained summer days raining without end
But mother could fix the rips with comfort she would mend
propping me back up to face it all again
and reassuring words and this is what she said

(chorus)  she'd say
life is just a pothole on the road to get to heaven
                  when you've given 10 he'll take you to 11
just hold on and keep your eyes straight ahead
because life is just a pothole on the road to get to heaven

down this long long road feeling I am nearing my mortal end
kneeling by my side a robed man who is my friend
Looking in his eyes I could see another world
gently in my ear this is the words that I heard

(chorus)

Get Up And Get Dancing

© 2018 Mark Cote

the clock ticks another week
looking forward to to get out and hit the street
round the corner
from where you are
a funky beat and an electric guitar

oh, it's hard to stop that beat
when it starts, you just wanna tap your feet
doesn't matter
where you are
through the milky way
and out across the stars

(chorus) so let the music grab your soul
and the rhythm make you go
and get up and get dancing
                  get up
                  get up
                  get up
                  and keep prancing

take my hand and we're in another world
in the speakers and the words is what we heard
it's only you
it's only me
once we get started we don't care who else can see

(chorus)

Drama Queen

© 2018 Mark Cote

                 who will know
                 you will know
maybe the wild in your eyes
                 see that girl
                 hear her scream
                 dig it, the drama queen

pointing fingers with things to say
it's never sunny it's always grey
to anyone who listens
it's the same old scene
angry and mean

wants attention and insecure
childishness and immature
a life without mirrors
never sees the light
lashing out in spite

and as the sparks ignite...

(chorus) you are a drama queen
                 dark and mean
                 feeling so pristine
                 drama queen
blow it up and make a scene
                 oh yeah
                 who will know
                 you will know
maybe the wild in your eyes
                 see that girl
                 hear her scream
                 dig it, the drama queen

telling lies with jaded eyes
but you're really not that wise
looking out from her fears
to anyone who'll hear
someone new to smear

and as the sparks ignite...

(chorus)

Til We're Teenagers Again

© 2018 Mark Cote

gentle words
into the wind
like a butterfly dancing
upon my skin

softest love
I've ever known
like a rose petal is
a subtle tone

under this spell of love
we are all we know

(chorus) so take, take me away
where the moon shines night and day
and the sweetest thing is the words you say
as we float away in the where and when
I'll love you 'til we're teenagers again

Just like days
the passing years
doesn't matter to me
as long as you're here

part of you
lives in me
without you
don't know where I'd be

(chorus)

gentle words
into the wind
like a butterfly dancing
upon my skin
