The Stone Cried

© 2018 Mark Cote

willows may weep
with every gust of wind
do they know
the spell they are in
why does the willow weep
not for you not for me

gentle wind she blows
only she is the one
the one who knows
but she won't reveal
her mysteries

(chorus) the stone cried
                  but nobody saw
                  the shell was made
                  when you withdraw
                  while it may rain
                  down inside
                  no one will see
                  when the stone cried

angel's tears
are falling down
kiss and heal the fertile ground
everyone can see and feel
but they don't know

ocean waves
rise and fall
touch the beach but then withdraw
and she won't reveal
her mysteries

(chorus)

Will You Want To Leave

© 2018 Mark Cote

Velvet streams of dreams
and skies that seem so mellow
the air that smells so sweet
and thoughts are made of jello

(chorus) but the sun will never know
                  the depth
                  of an undertow
                  the leaves may never see
                  how far
                  they're taken by the breeze
                  will you stay
                  without seeing tomorrow
or will you want to leave
                  will you want to leave

words dance like vines untied
looking for a seamstress
as the days seem to fly by
only without a witness

(chorus)
(instrumental)

seeing ones with the same color eyes
passing through the darkness
it is like a whirlwind ride
that sometimes seems so heartless

(chorus)

The Child Of Man

© 2018 Mark Cote

he painted the world with colors
and songs in different tongues
and the hope
they'd harmonize as one

hating each other's differences
but we all still bleed the same
spiraling end to nowhere
if nothing is going to change

(chorus) calling, across the land
                  just reach
                  out your hand
                  and help if you can
                  your fellow man

build him up, don't tear him down
like the fertile soil on the ground
and we will find out how it will be
                  the child of man

he gave us a mind to realize
that together we can work it out
when one mind
is so so filled with doubt

when negative thoughts wash over
like a cold September rain
someone holds the umbrella
'til the sun will shine again

(chorus)

Something We Never Knew

© 2018 Mark Cote

we were just talking
like old friends do
shoulders to lean on
that pulled us through

the mourning underground
and scarring tears
well we both felt them
over the years

(chorus) as I was learning more
                  more about you
                  and you were learning more
                  more about me
we may have just found something
                  something we can't see

oblivious to love
or maybe afraid to
whatever it was
whatever it is
it remains....
we may have just found something
something we can't see

(instrumental)

(chorus) as I was learning more
                  more about you
                  and you were learning more
                  more about me
we may have just found something
                  something we can't see

(instrumental to end)

Sparrow In A Veil

© 2018 Mark Cote

little bird sees the world
with wonder and love gently swirled
colors too deep for kind eyes to see
such a harsh reality

shadowed places and reaching tongues
repeat the tales so many have spun
stroke the feathers try to tie her down
same old scene from town to town

(chorus) into the air she goes
life on a wing through wind and snow
higher and higher where tears can't fly
                     sparrow in a veil
                     let it shine

the blood and tears roll off the wing
and the breeze above lets her sing
tomorrows wash away todays
and sorrows weight never stays

(chorus)
