Look But Do Not Touch

© 2011 Mark Cote

smile, like a summer sunrise
and eyes, like the ocean sky
a love, that seems just as distant
and I don't understand why

it's chilly, in this sunny frostbite
your world is so black and white
silly, fickle minded rainbow girl
laughs until she's out of sight

(chorus) with mouths that talk but don't say much
a heart says "look but do not touch"
you may admire me from afar
just look but do not touch

when, the ones that just paint your face
see what it is really for
color, should come from the inside out
who would put welcome on a pad-locked door

and if no one's ever let inside
it's a cold and it's a lonely girl
what is it you're afraid of
someone could melt your world

(chorus)
