Working In A Retail Wonderland
© 2015 Mark Cote
children scream
stores are filling
I must go
but I'm not willing
I know I can't run
I just go numb
working in a retail wonderland
In the aisles it is frightening
see the moms they are fighting
it happens each night
though it's not right
working in a retail wonderland
in the checkouts it is never ending
shopper tension each and every lane
clerk will ask "did you find what you wanted?"
I'm looking for the exit all the time
later on when no one's looking
someone slips lost their footing
things spilled on the floor
it's hard to ignore
working in a retail wonderland
in the checkouts it is never ending
shopper tension each and every lane
try to hold your tongue as they are buying
if I make it to the car and I'm still sane
stock the shelves in the madness
thoughts of home in this sadness
have to pay bills
or nobody will
working in a retail wonderland
working in a retail wonderland
working in a retail wonderland

Hey Mark - I commented but it didn't show my comment... trying again. I thought this was fun! Great lyrics and I can't wait to hear it to some happy music. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie. An ode to retail workers during the holidays.
