Where Are You Going Mr. Jones?

© 2016 Mark Cote

where are you going Mr Jones
are you welcomed or all alone
as we look out from our stone
man who fell to earth is home
ah ah ah

spiders from Mars are all around
like stardust that can't be bound
In your cloud you wear a crown
is the sand red or is it brown
ah ah ah

coalescing is so distressing
where you are
the collective love
will heal your scars.....

(instrumental)

where are you going Mr. Jones
starman ripples words and tones
and robot sounds now are cloned
I hope we learned what you had shown

coalescing is so distressing
where you are
the collective love
will heal your scars.....

where are you going Mr Jones?
where are you going Mr Jones?
where are we going......

(instrumental)

The Man With One Squeaky Shoe

© 2016 Mark Cote

people nod like they're your friend
their "how are you's" are just pretend
for in the shadows they never knew
walks the man with one squeaky shoe

On a hot August night
while moonlit hearts bask in the light
his memory tears hide out of sight
cries the man with one squeaky shoe

(chorus) maybe he will
                  maybe he won't
get past the clouds where he goes
for the waxy shine of the love he knew
is in each step of his squeaky shoe

(instrumental)

the doubts he has hold him back
from giving love he can't get back
if she's pure if she's true
she'll love the man with one squeaky shoe

(chorus)

I'm Gonna Divorce This Town

© 2015 Mark Cote

it always felt wrong
I never belonged
though where I was born
my heart longs for more
passive aggressive gets me down
I'm gonna divorce this town

if I can ever escape
ever get away
no rear view mirror
my future looks clearer
than oppressed depressed silent sounds
I'm gonna divorce this town

(chorus) this town
                  this one horse town
                  before the sun goes down
                  I'm gonna divorce this town
                  this town
                  this one horse town
                  you can place your bets
                  I won't regret
                  I'm gonna divorce this town

there's nothing to do
hoots the owl
they roll up the streets
when the sun goes down
when you live in nothing
nothing's all you find
but it won't get me down
I'm gonna divorce this town

(chorus)
(instrumental)

keep dreams to yourself
not say how you feel
it's not for me
the way of life they lead
in alcohol sorrows drown
I'm gonna divorce this town

If I Were There With You

© 2015 Mark Cote

being with you makes me feel I could fly away
fly as far as the milky way
with the love of the words we say
yeah as far as the milky way
if I were there with you

the warmth of your heart like a blanket on a winter night
how it feels to hold you tight
if you just asked me you know I might
live forever with you tonight
if I were there with you

(chorus) if I were
                  there with you
                  if it were really true
                  if I were
                  there with you
                  then it would be
                  then I could see
if I were there with you

on the line where the waves kiss the sandy shore
in the future or the day before
in a starlight dress and the dream you wore
my mind sees behind the door
if I were there with you

(chorus)

California Christmas

© 2015 Mark Cote

Far from the snow
I used to know
to ocean sprays
and sunny days
man, I wouldn't trade
a California Christmas

that icy cold
and frozen roads
to open drives
and sunset tides
man, I wouldn't trade
a California Christmas

(chorus) so light the tree
                  does it matter where
                  long as you and I
                  we both are there
                  location is something we dismiss
                  Oh how I love
                  California Christmas

it's much better fun
in the sun
not shoveling snow
in 20 below
man, I wouldn't trade
a California Christmas

(chorus)
(instrumental)

sand castle snowman
on the beach
once a dream
I could not reach
man, I wouldn't trade
a California Christmas

(chorus)

Pretend I Wasn't Here

© 2015 Mark Cote

vivid colors
don't mix pastel
my fluid thoughts
I cannot tell

small town talk
doesn't want to know
a wounded heart
depth of a soul

when the bubble burst
masks came off
what I saw
was not enough

(chorus) Into the night
                  on Poe's raven
                  I take flight
                  misunderstood
                  and out of sight
                  no one looks
                  it's really quite clear
                  so pretend I
                  just wasn't here

among yourselves
life's the same
players may change
but the game's the same

means to an end
it's run it's course
I turn the page
with no remorse

memories fade
and so will I
melting clouds
blend into sky

(chorus)

May it end
on a happy note
may I leave a lump
in your throat

The other side
is not as bad
as shadows I was
the life I had

(chorus)

Do You Still Dance Diana

© 2015 Mark Cote

yesterdays got you down
working weeks spin you round
work and play go hand in hand
just cut loose hear the band

(chorus) do you still dance
                  do you still dance
                  do you still dance Diana
don't you still feel that beat
does it make you move your feet
                  don't you just wanna go
                  do you still dance....
                  do you still dance
                  Diana

like a top you would go
dancing queen a dynamo
no dance you couldn't do
dazzled eyes gazed at you

(chorus)

stack the past put it away
save it for another day
the night is young and so are we
in this moment you and me

(chorus)
