Half Past Wine

© 2014 Mark Cote

daydream girl
we almost met
I got here early
did you forget

lost in traffic
another street
maybe a touch of
fearful cold feet

(chorus) If you were gonna be here girl
                 you shoulda took the train
                 the more I'm looking
                 the more it's getting late
                 now I'm drinking
                 and start to feel fine
you may as well forget it
                 'cause it's half past wine

been there before
you could have called
you lost my number
your car was stalled

so hard to admit
a change of heart
if we can't be honest
where do we start

Lesson Learned

© 2014 Mark Cote

empty souls that prostitute
to corporation greed
on a sunny April morn
another mouth to feed

smiling snakes that will bite
try to poison you
know not what they say
know not what they do

scripted words make me ill
like some ugly jagged pill
the game's the same
changing names
who is really to blame

(chorus)  here I am
                  Lesson learned
                  now I'm so much wiser
                  Though I'm burned
                  walk again
                  my future's so much brighter
                  picking up the pieces
                  down the road I turn
                  lesson learned

everyone is disposable
to a corporate need
chattering mosquitos
prick you 'til you bleed

economic slavery
in this world we live
so much that has been taken
so little that we give

lying here in my bed
I wonder where we'll go
fragile steps unknown road
would be different than we've known

Mumbles McGintee

© 2014 Mark Cote

through the clear
I hear a rumble
sounds like words
but words are crumbled

In that world
of jibberish sense
misheard words
are your defense

(chorus)  it was
                  mumbles mcgintee
                  what was it you say
                  talking to yourself
                  in no particular way
                  its erratic
                  is it static
                  what was it you say
                  it was mumbles mcgintee
                  in no particular way

said to me
or said to you
under their breath
nobody knew

passive aggressive
a sideways slam
hard to tell
I don't give a damn

Monkey Droppings

© 2014 Mark Cote

swing tree to tree
here she comes
Looking like fun
so high up above

such a quest to be with her
what's left of you is in the dirt

(chorus)  over here
                over there
                monkey droppings everywhere
that's all that's left to be found
                monkey droppings on the ground
                she'll scrape you up
                another round
                monkey droppings on the ground

this jungle love
so wild and new
watch out better
make a monkey of you

careless and free
not care who gets hurt
like cold droppings
hearts left in the dirt

No one can clean
the trail she will leave
For playful fun
is meant to deceive

Life For Sale

© 2014 Mark Cote

Packing up and heading down
heading down to a quiet town
where nobody knows my name
nobody knows why I came

down some winding gravel road
where birds will sing and sunrise glows
on my porch I'll taste the air
this new life everywhere

(chorus) life for sale
got a past with a view
                  life for sale
                  I won't remember you
                  life for sale
at a heck of a price
                  life for sale
                  never think twice
with this key and a wind in my sail
                  life for sale

only lost in memories
if I stay I'll remember these
paint and paper cannot hide
so I leave this life behind

for someone else on a hill
stands a house with dreams to fill
but for me I've run my course
so this life I now divorce
